Mission of the institution
The SKBF is a joint institution of the federal government and the 26 cantonal ministers of education. Its mission involves documenting research findings from both Swiss and international studies that are relevant to the Swiss education system. The SKBF provides comprehensive information on ongoing educational research projects in Switzerland and facilitates coordination between research, administration, and policy. Additionally, it promotes national and international collaboration in the field of education. The SKBF also conducts analyses of current research on key educational issues, contributing to evidence-based decision-making.
Key Functions
- Documenting and disseminating the findings of current Swiss educational research;
- Collecting and analysing nationally available data on the entire Swiss education system;
- Producing and publishing the Swiss Education Report every four years;
- Fostering dialogue and coordination between policy, administration, and research, as well as providing research insights to support decision-making.

- Monitoring the digitalization in schools;
- Analysing educational trajectories and dropouts at university;
- Analysing the effects of further education;
- Analysing the effects on the labour market of firm-based learning.
